Associate/Analyst
Davis Pier is seeking a full-time Analyst or Associate to join our consulting firm in Halifax, NS. The successful candidate will lead and deliver exceptional client services necessary to design, plan, and implement lasting change and improvement in complex public sector environments.

Responsibilities
- Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills
- Help foster client relationships within project environments
- Assist in developing high quality project deliverables
- Using user experience and user-design methodologies to inform project approaches
- Facilitate client workshops and interviews
- Employ innovative new methods and approaches to uncover rich citizen insights; use insights to develop strategic approaches to public sector transformation

Qualifications
Candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Formal education in business, public administration, engineering, information technology, or service design
- Previous experience in project settings in a professional services environment is an asset
- Knowledge and experience of how to use technology as a business enabler
- Is responsive to changes in technology and can adapt their approach accordingly
- Possess strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
- Previous consulting experience would be considered an asset
- Knowledge of the public sector, the social sector, or healthcare would be considered an asset
- Experience designing and implementing digital change would be considered an asset
- Experience in using service design methodologies including prototype development, UX/UI, and usability testing would be considered an asset

Research Analyst/Associate
The Opportunity
Pier Labs is seeking a full-time Research Analyst or Associate to join our non-profit organization in Halifax, NS. The successful candidate will deliver research and evaluation projects for public sector and partners. In alignment with our pursuit of evidence-based policy, the Research Analyst/Associate will work with our partners to identify and deliver rigourous research to design and evaluate policy and programming with the objective of improving the delivery of public services. The Research Analyst/Associate would work with not-for-profit, philanthropic, academic, and public sector partners to complete this work.
Responsibilities:
- Design evaluation frameworks aligned with project objectives and requirements
- Develop interventions to test - applying concepts from behavioral and social science to the design of communications, processes, and programs
- Support the development of field experiments
- Develop data collection plans and data analysis strategies to answer key evaluation questions
- Create and test data collection instruments and protocols
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis for a range of research and evaluation projects
- Work with clients and partners to co-design and implement evaluation activities, including training and technical assistance
- Monitor data collection activities and conduct data quality assurance
- Prepare effective communication materials to share with partners and stakeholders
- Conduct jurisdictional scans, literature searches and evidence reviews to inform evidence-informed decision-making
- Provide policy analysis and program design support
- Write reports and prepare presentations to effectively communicate research results and recommendations to a range of technical and non-technical audiences
- Conduct project coordination activities including developing project schedules and work plans, organizing meetings, managing documents and tracking activities
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in behavioural science, economics, sociology, psychology, public administration, political science, population health or related field
- Expertise in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
- Academic or job-related experience conducting evaluations of social programs is highly desired
- Experience designing randomized control experiments is desired
- Experience designing data collection instruments including surveys and/or interview protocols
- Experience in research, public policy analysis and program design. Related research expertise in employment and skills development sector would be an asset.
- Experience leading and managing the delivery of projects with proven ability in project planning, scheduling, and budgeting
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with a strong ability to convey complex ideas and information to non-technical audiences
- Strong motivation and commitment to research excellence, generating new ideas, exchanging and mobilizing knowledge, and continuous improvement
- Ability to make appropriate decisions in the face of complexity or uncertainty, identify and manage risks, and act to address issues when necessary
- Proficiency with statistics software (e.g. STATA, R, Python, SPSS, SAS, etc.)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel

Service Designer
The Opportunity
Responsibilities
The Service Designer will:
- Work with public sector clients in Atlantic Canada and Ontario to design policies, programs, services, and experiences;
- Utilized human-centred approaches to service design, from research and insight generation to concept to deliverable
- Employ innovative new methods and approaches to uncover rich citizen insights; use insights to develop strategic strategies for public sector transformation
- Design, manage and execute projects using a variety of qualitative research methodologies
- Contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams in the role of Service Designer, Researcher, Consultant, or Facilitator
- Able to respond positively and calmly to shifting priorities, demands and timelines
- Champion and reinforce the value of citizen-led approaches and design thinking
- Support the growth of our design practice internally and externally
Qualifications
Candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Experience and passion for solving complex problems in the public and social sectors
- Formal education in design, business, public administration, engineering, or IT
- Research background with an understanding and appreciation for qualitative insights
- Demonstrable passion and expertise in design thinking methodologies
- Knowledge and experience using rapid prototyping tools such as Sketch, Invision, etc.
- Interest in designing applications, experiences, websites, products and services that balance user needs, business objectives and technological constraints
- Previous experience in project settings, in a professional services environment
- Professional with no ego – equally comfortable leading senior executives and being led by junior resources
- Possess the ability to remain flexible concerning approaches to delivering client solutions
- Previous consulting experience would be considered an asset
- Visual design skills, including using a diverse set of software such as Adobe CS, Sketch, and OmniGraffle, would be an asset
