Analyst, UX Designer

The Opportunity

Davis Pier is seeking a full-time Analyst - UX Designer to join our consulting firm in Halifax, NS. The successful candidate will be a key member of our team, focused on the design and development of web-based prototypes to support the digital transformation of public sector service delivery.

Responsibilities

The UX Designer will:

  • Work with public sector clients to ideate digital solutions, design wireframes, develop interactive prototypes, and test them with end users;
  • Advocate for experience design and usability best practices - working to understand and solve for user needs and barriers;
  • Know when to embrace conventions and when/how to challenge status quo and experiment with new ideas;
  • Participate in qualitative research with users and apply findings into your work;
  • Develop documentation to guide implementation;
  • Documents work flows?
  • Work collaboratively with service designers, researchers, product and project managers, technical architects, other UX professionals, and external web designers, developers, and copy writers; and,
  • Support the growth of our digital practice internally and externally.

  • Adhere to administrative processes and firm policies such as timesheet reporting, expense tracking, workplace safety, and sustainability practices

Qualifications

Candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Passion for solving complex problems in the public and social sectors;
  • Demonstrable experience as a lead UX designer for web and mobile web experiences, including the development of interactive prototypes;
  • Previous experience in project settings, in a professional services environment;
  • Preference for designing functional applications for government over flashy marketing sites for the private sector;
  • Appreciate the importance of good content with the skills to write draft copy;
  • Proficient with a variety of design and prototyping tools such as Figma, InVision, and Adobe
  • Comfortable working in a UX role on a team without UI designers or a development team; and
  • Knowledge of front and back-end development, or agile delivery methodologies would be considered an asset.

Associate, Digital Product Manager

  • Experience writing user stories, doing user research, and identifying technical requirements

  • Ability to quickly assess existing solutions and technology-related constraints, understand client needs, and develop solution options

Research Analyst/Associate 

The Opportunity

Pier Labs is seeking a full-time Research Analyst or Associate to join our non-profit organization in Halifax, NS. The successful candidate will deliver research and evaluation projects for public sector and partners. In alignment with our pursuit of evidence-based policy, the Research Analyst/Associate will work with our partners to identify and deliver rigourous research to design and evaluate policy and programming with the objective of improving the delivery of public services. The Research Analyst/Associate would work with not-for-profit, philanthropic, academic, and public sector partners to complete this work.

Responsibilities:

  • Design evaluation frameworks aligned with project objectives and requirements
  • Develop interventions to test - applying concepts from behavioral and social science to the design of communications, processes, and programs
  • Support the development of field experiments
  • Develop data collection plans and data analysis strategies to answer key evaluation questions
  • Create and test data collection instruments and protocols
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis for a range of research and evaluation projects
  • Work with clients and partners to co-design and implement evaluation activities, including training and technical assistance
  • Monitor data collection activities and conduct data quality assurance
  • Prepare effective communication materials to share with partners and stakeholders
  • Conduct jurisdictional scans, literature searches and evidence reviews to inform evidence-informed decision-making
  • Provide policy analysis and program design support
  • Write reports and prepare presentations to effectively communicate research results and recommendations to a range of technical and non-technical audiences
  • Conduct project coordination activities including developing project schedules and work plans, organizing meetings, managing documents and tracking activities

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in behavioural science, economics, sociology, psychology, public administration, political science, population health or related field
  • Expertise in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
  • Academic or job-related experience conducting evaluations of social programs is highly desired
  • Experience designing randomized control experiments is desired
  • Experience designing data collection instruments including surveys and/or interview protocols
  • Experience in research, public policy analysis and program design. Related research expertise in employment and skills development sector would be an asset.
  • Experience leading and managing the delivery of projects with proven ability in project planning, scheduling, and budgeting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with a strong ability to convey complex ideas and information to non-technical audiences
  • Strong motivation and commitment to research excellence, generating new ideas, exchanging and mobilizing knowledge, and continuous improvement
  • Ability to make appropriate decisions in the face of complexity or uncertainty, identify and manage risks, and act to address issues when necessary
  • Proficiency with statistics software (e.g. STATA, R, Python, SPSS, SAS, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
