Project Coordinator - Pier Labs

 

Pier Labs is seeking a Project Coordinator on a Part time contract basis until May/June 2023. project is seeking to address the disproportionate care burden on women and its impact on economic development in the Valley Region. As the Project coordinator, you will support the project team by communicating, liaising, and organizing project stakeholders as we engage community members across the region on this participatory research and design project. We are looking for someone who has a strong background in meetings/events coordination and is familiar with the Annapolis Valley Region. They will have an interest in community collaboration and economic development.

About the Opportunity  

Through this 21-month project, Pier Labs will help advance women’s recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19 through systemic change. Specifically, the project will address systemic barriers within the economic system by integrating caregiving, work that is primarily shouldered by women, into a rural region’s economic recovery. 

The Pier Labs team, supported by the Valley Regional Enterprise Network, will work with a local Steering Committee to facilitate a women-led participatory research and design project that serves to bring together caregivers and stakeholders in the economic landscape to learn, generate ideas, and test these ideas through implementing small-scale prototypes. We will work collaboratively through a series of activities including establishing a steering committee, research, design, prototyping, and evaluation to accomplish the following outcomes: increased empowerment of women caregivers, increased understanding of care work and how it affects the social and economic wellbeing of women in a rural region, increased involvement and collaboration across business stakeholders, increased innovation, and increased integration of care work into regional economic development strategies.

Responsibilities

Community Engagement (35%)

  • Work with the project team to recruit for and engage with Project Steering Committee and community stakeholders throughout the project
  • Provide information about the project engagement opportunities and direct interested community members to the project team as needed

Meeting and Event Scheduling & Logistics (50%)

  • Schedule and coordinate logistics (e.g., childcare, space, accommodations, equipment, etc.) for Project Steering Committee meetings, focus groups, workshop events, and other types of consultations with steering committee members, broader community members, and other relevant stakeholders
  • Attends Project Steering Committee meetings (frequency could range from bi-weekly to monthly) and takes meeting minutes

Communications (15%)

  • Works with project stakeholders to identify opportunities to engage community members as needed
  • Coordinates with both Pier Labs and Valley REN to communicate project updates and highlights to stakeholders
  • Communicates project needs and updates to Project Steering Committee in between meetings

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with coordinating committee meetings, workshops, events and/or other similar activities including reducing barriers to participation and providing appropriate accessibility accommodations
  • Knowledge of the Annapolis Valley Region
  • Experience working with a broad and diverse set of community stakeholders
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office
  • Self-managed, organized, and possesses strong time management skills
  • Familiarity with scheduling tools (e.g., Calendly, Outlook, Doodle poll)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide information concisely and effectively to a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation, as you will need to transport supplies, materials, and/or equipment to different meeting locations across the Valley Region on a biweekly basis.

Position details

This is a 16-month contract (including a 12-week probationary period) that will start in February 2022. 

This new and exciting role will be part-time (20-29 hours a week) with hours primarily between Mon-Fri 8:30am - 4:30pm, and the potential for occasional evenings and/or weekends depending on Project Steering Committee meetings.

This position can be a combination of remote-work and in-office

Pay & Benefits

  • Wage is $25-$30/hour
  • Flexible schedule and ability to set hours, assuming most working hours are during the business day and coinciding with the project team’s work day.
  • Pier Labs will provide a laptop and reimburse a portion of personal cell phone expenses for business use.
  • Compensation for travel expenses for meeting locations outside of community will be provided.

Research Support Role - AspireAtlantic

 

Pier Labs is seeking a Research Support for an 8-month contract with potential for extension within the AspireAtlantic Project.  

About the Opportunity 

The AspireAtlantic project is a demonstration study seeking to implement andtest an evidence-based employment services model in Nova Scotia. WorkAdvance, the model upon which this project is based, is designed to help unemployed and low-wage workers connect to higher quality local jobs in high growth sectors. It was developed using research and was tested in three U.S. cities, demonstrating positive economic outcomes for participants. The primary goal of the project is to move unemployed and low-wage working populations into sectors that offer better pay, benefits, and advancement opportunities.  

 
Alongside implementation of AspireAtlantic, Pier Labs is providing evaluation services and technical assistance to the program delivery team and staff. The Research Support role will be part of the technical assistance and developmental evaluation team. 

Responsibilities

In the Research Support role, you will support the project team by conducting research and related tasks that are focused on examining program implementation at key stages including:


  • Systematic observations of training sessions and meetings between program participants and staff 

  • Interviews with program participants

  • Supporting data collection through participant and staff surveys and similar exercise

  • Review of relevant research literature 

  • Synthesis and analysis of program data to support program development and timely research outputs 

In line with a developmental evaluation approach, research activities may shift over the life of the project and new research activities may be required. A flexible approach to mixed-methods research will therefore be necessary throughout the project. 

Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a researcher or research assistant in the social sciences 
  • Experience in observational research 
  • Understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods 
  • Demonstrated ability to write research reports 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office 
  • Ability to work remotely 
  • Located in Canada 

Assets

  • Understanding of the employment sector

Position details:

Technical Support Specialist

This role will be focused on IT support for our internal operations and will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and supporting the technology and systems our team uses daily. This includes helping our employees with any technical challenges they may experience, from troubleshooting common computer and networking issues to upgrading and managing systems and software.

Responsibilities

The Technical Support Specialist will primarily be responsible for user support and assistance of IT applications and services, including installation, configuration, issue resolution, best practice research, options analysis, and IT and technical incident management. Responsibilities include:

  • Be the point of contact for technical problems and troubleshooting problems that staff may have with computer hardware and/or software

  • Provide support while also investigating technical issues, recording, and escalating the incident as required

  • Install, support, and provide routine maintenance to hardware and software, including user account management for the company's SaaS accounts

  • Acting as the Office 365 administrator, including adding new users, resetting passwords, and monitoring licences

  • Managing antivirus software and proactively monitoring for malware

  • Monitoring and maintaining IT asset inventory

  • Assisting with Backup and Security Operations, including ensuring backup of all Office 365 data (Exchange, SharePoint, and One Drive)

  • Basic connectivity, and network and firewall management, monitoring and troubleshooting

  • Assisting with New Hire orientation on company IT platforms, including MacBook and mobile phone deployment, troubleshooting, and configuration assistance

  • Troubleshooting with both Apple hardware and software

Qualifications

Candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Post-secondary education in related field and 2 years previous IT-related experience

  • Thorough MacOS and iOS knowledge

  • Mac desktop application knowledge (Microsoft Office, Adobe, etc.)

  • Experience with various IT tools and SaaS applications: JAMF, Zoom, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Sophos, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
