More about Aspire Atlantic
Despite increased employment potential in the Maritimes, low-income individuals continue to be disproportionately impacted by high unemployment rates.

Currently in Nova Scotia and P.E.I. there is an opportunity to enhance existing employment programs to support clients in their career journey from assessment, training, to employment, through to advancement into middle-skilled jobs.

Future Skills Centre is investing $230,000 to develop Aspire Atlantic and bring additional evidence-based employment programming to Nova Scotia and PEI, with three main goals for job seekers: employment, career advancement, and increased earnings.

Aspire Atlantic is intended to bridge the gap between the needs of employers and aiding workers to advance to higher-skilled jobs.  This is achieved through a sector-based skills development intervention that identifies local sector demand and works with employers to develop skills training and job placements with the goal of moving unemployed persons or low-wage workers into middle-skill jobs with advancement opportunities. The Aspire Atlantic program, based on the American WorkAdvance model, will include employability assessment , sector-specific occupational skills training, supports for sector-specific job development, and post-employment retention and advancement services.
